AEROSMITH Guitarist: 'I'm A Huge ELVIS Fan'

September 8, 2007

Miriam Di Nunzio of the Chicago Sun-Times recently conducted a short interview with AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry.

On Chicago:

Perry: "We love it there. It's a great, great city. It's one of the cities I'd choose if I had to live somewhere other than Boston. It's got that great blues heritage. I've done my Christmas shopping more times there in the past 10 years than anywhere else because invariably our tour lands us there around the holidays."

Chicago Sun-Times: Why did you opt to perform on the finale of "American Idol"?

Perry: It was a chance to play on the biggest TV show in America. A whole new generation of music fans were hopefully introduced to AEROSMITH that night.

Chicago Sun-Times: Tell me about your upcoming appearance on the TV special celebrating Elvis Presley's music ("Elvis: Viva Las Vegas", Sept. 18 on ABC).

Perry: I get to perform with Toby Keith. I met him a few times, and I really dig his style of show, kicking country music into overdrive. I like his energy. And, of course, I'm a huge Elvis fan. I get to jam on "Mystery Train" with Toby. He sings it great.

Chicago Sun-Times: Who's the one artist that you'd give anything to jam with if you got the chance?

Perry: [Bob] Dylan. There are probably five people in our generation that are as important [to music] as he is. And he'd be the top of that list.

Chicago Sun-Times: What do you think you'd learn from him?

Perry: [Laughs] I can only imagine.
